LOCATIONS
RWB – Radiant Well-being Yoga Center is located at 501 West Avenue in North Augusta, SC. The center contains two yoga studios and offers a quiet and comfortable setting with lots of props. Parking is easy, although you may have to park on the (low-traffic) street during busy times.
The Family Y – Wilson Branch. This family friendly workout facility offers childcare and lots of class options, as well as the usual gym equipment. Most of the classes are free with membership.
CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Hot Yoga - The room will be heated to the mid 90s for a workout class. The format will be a Pranakriya Yoga Workout class, including pranayama (breathing exercises) and ending with a relaxation. The heat is beneficial because it allows the body to safely move more fully into postures. This also makes the practice more fun and satisfying, as long as you don’t mind sweating! Bring your own yoga mat, small towel and water bottle. (James (Jim) O’Leary, Danna Gay, Yoganand Michael Carroll and I rotate teaching this class.)
Pranakriya Yoga - This is the name of the class on the schedule at the Y, started by Danna Gay a few years ago. The format is similar to the workouts at RWB, but adjusted to be an hour instead of 90 minutes. I have been subbing for Danna since Fall ‘08. The format will be the same when she returns. (If you have a Y membership, this is a good “stepping-stone” to the Hot Yoga classes.)
Prenatal Yoga – Gentle exercises will help you stay fit and strengthen your muscles for birth. You will learn yoga postures that ease common pregnancy discomforts such as low back pain and sciatica. You will also practice breathing exercises helpful for relaxation during pregnancy and labor, and meditations to reduce stress and help you connect with your baby. No previous yoga experience necessary. (To learn more, read my post about the benefits of prenatal yoga.)
